Prototyping

Fixing something in the design process is much less expensive than trying to fix it once it’s been launched. Depending on who you ask, fixing a problem once your system has launched will cost 100-1000 times as much as what it would have cost had you fixed it during the design process

In an interview, Todd Warfel shares his views on prototyping. I quite enjoy mocking up stuff and doing prototypes in general, and Todd’s opinion on how to integrate prototyping in a design process are spot on! For the publication of his new prototyping how-to publication, he has produced this matrix that can be used to determine what prototyping solution fits the needs for your design job.

I really look forward to getting some more hands-on experience working with prototyping and would be able to say that I consider prototyping a compulsory element in my design work.

Prototyping has given us the power to show and tell the story of our design solutions to any given problem rather than just tell the story waving our hands in the air to describe the magic.
